Ride the Amtrak Ski Train to Winter Park this Season!!
Are you starting to plan or starting to think about planning your ski adventures yet? Well, Snow Happy is! If I’m being honest, planning the next season for us starts on the chair lift the season prior…kind of like planning your next meal while sitting in a restaurant enjoying an amazing meal. I may be known to do this.
Last season, we did our usual day trips to Winter Park, a weekend at Copper Mountain, 2 visits to Steamboat and a long weekend in Crested Butte. But, also on our list, was to go somewhere new and we had a fabulous time exploring Taos Ski Valley.
So, what’s in the works for 2019-2020, you ask? First up, new to me, is Beaver Creek. Second, an adventure to Big Sky, MT. And, finally, using the Amtrak Ski Train to get to Winter Park! We have watched it roll into the resort time after time and said out loud (every time), “We have got to do this! How fun for the kiddos!” Well, this is our year.
Here are the basics if you, too, want a ski-train-venture:
- Early bird discount adults fares start at $29 each way and sell out quickly.
- Regular fares range from $39-59 each way.
- Kids 2-12 ride for half the adult fare (one child ticket/adult).
- Trains depart Denver’s Union Station at 7am and arrive at Winter Park at 9am
- Return trips depart Winter Park at 4:30 and arrive in Denver at 6:40
- Large groups may call 800-USA-1GRP for train, ski, and stay packages.

Not a skier? You can still enjoy the Winter Park Resort with their new “Winter Park Family Fests” December 14th, January 18th, February 15th and March 14th. If you like to kick of the holidays with a good tree-lighting, check out their Holiday Market and Tree Lighting on November 30th. Click here for more information about these and other family friendly events happening there!
Not only is it just plain cool to be able to take a train skiing, you can sit back and watch the beautiful scenery go by. And, while the cost makes this unsustainable as a regular ski-commute, even getting a train-ful of cars off I-70 every weekend is better for traffic and the environment!
We’d love to hear about the adventures you have planned this winter so drop us a comment below or post on our Facebook page! Can’t wait to see you out there finding your joy in winter, wherever the snow may fall!
